Inside Perilune Limiter

Select a numbered marker on the screenshot, or read through the notes below.

  1. Input

Gain drives the signal into the limiter, from 0 to +30 dB, with an input level meter below.

  2. Character

Clipping, Very Fast, Fast & Loud, Smooth or Transparent: how the limiter attacks and releases.

  3. Gain-reduction display

The last five seconds of input, output and gain reduction against the ceiling, with a live GR bar.

  4. Upward, transient and soft clip

Lift quiet passages, emphasise attacks, and saturate peaks before the limiter, with a light, medium or heavy clip shape.

  5. Output and true peak

Set the ceiling. With True Peak lit it holds between samples too, so nothing overs after conversion.

  6. Stereo link

Link the fast transient stage and the slow sustain stage separately, or move both together.

  7. Metering

Short-term loudness in LUFS, peak out and maximum gain reduction, with latency shown below.

  8. A/B and blind test

A/B plays the dry signal at the same loudness. Blind plays limiter and dry in random order over 8 rounds.

Limiter features: true peak, five characters and soft clip

A mastering limiter with five characters, from transparent to clipping, and a true-peak output that stays under the ceiling between samples. Upward compression lifts quiet passages without raising the noise floor, transient emphasis keeps the punch, and soft clip shaves peaks before the limiter. A five-second display shows input, output and gain reduction against the ceiling, with short-term LUFS beside it.

  • True-peak ceiling

Set the output ceiling and switch on True Peak to stay under it between samples too, with 4x linear-phase oversampling.

  • Five characters

Clipping, Very Fast, Fast & Loud, Smooth and Transparent, from hard-edged loudness to clean, invisible limiting.

  • Soft clip

Saturation before the limiter, with a light, medium or heavy shape, to shave peaks so the limiter works less.

  • Upward and transient

Lift quiet passages without raising the noise floor, and bring back the attack that limiting takes away.

  • Two-stage stereo link

Link the fast transient and slow sustain stages separately, so the image stays steady without pumping.

  • Metering

Five seconds of input, output and gain reduction against the ceiling, plus short-term LUFS, peak and maximum gain reduction.

  • Level-matched A/B and blind test

Compare with the dry signal at the same loudness, or take a blind test over 8 rounds. A limiter makes things louder, so this matters most here.
